One of the UK’s youngest award-winning wine writers, Jane Parkinson is a freelance journalist, presenter and professional wine taster.
She makes weekly wine recommendations for Stylist Magazine and monthly recommendations for Tesco Magazine, as well as writing for consumer magazines How To Spend It (Financial Times), Square Meal and Decanter. She also writes regularly about wine regions and wine and food matching for sommelier-focussed trade magazines Restaurant and Imbibe.
Jane is one of five members of The Wine Gang, a group of five independent wine journalists committed to reviewing 200 wines online each month and to hosting large consumer tastings around the UK every winter. She frequently judges at international wine competitions and in 2009 and 2010 she was Chair of Judges for the Rising Stars Trophy, a national competition in search of the best young sommelier and chef team in the country.
Jane presents regularly evening wine courses at Vini Italiani, an Italian wine shop in South Kensington, and she’s about to embark on a series of wine tastings in conjunction with Slow Food UK. Jane also hosts trips to winemaking regions for private member clubs.
Jane started her career at The Institute of Masters of Wine and then The Wine Society, before switching to, starting on consumer magazine Wine International, then Wine & Spirit magazine and finally The Drinks Business magazine, which she left in December 2010 to travel to Australia for 3 months to work a wine harvest.
Upon returning to the UK, she launched her own website and went freelance to pursue the tasting, hosting and writing roles that people had promised her before she left for Australia!
In 2009, she was given the Chairman’s Award at the Louis Roederer International Wine Writers’ Awards for “rising rocket-like” through the world of wine writing.
